Given our limited technology of space travel and our lack of funds. How long do you think will it take before we can achieve interstellar flight?

Scientists and the authors have postulated a number of roads that would be possible to overcome the speed of light. Even the most serious of these are speculative. Barring a breakthrough, probably at least 100 years. “Considering the rapid pace of progress technological, things look brighter. The first flights the Wright Brothers’ weak advanced to a man on the moon in just 50 years. In less than 100 years, We can travel 1,000 times faster. If this rule is valid for the next hundred years, we are able to travel to the nearest stars with relative ease. The nearest known star to the Sun is Proxima Centauri, which is 4.23 years light away. The fastest spacecraft yet sent forth, Voyager 1 has covered 1/600th of a light-year in 30 years and now moves to 1 / 18000 the speed of light. At this rate, a trip to Proxima Centauri would take 72,000 years. Of course, this mission was not specifically intended for quick trips to the stars, and current technology could do much better. The travel time could be reduced a few millennia using lightsails, or for a century or less using nuclear pulse propulsion (Orion). If a spaceship could average 10 percent speed light would be enough to reach Proxima Centauri in forty years. Various propulsion systems are capable of doing, but none of them are reasonably affordable. Proposal for interstellar spacecraft using nuclear pulse propulsion include the Project Orion and Project Longshot. Use of miniature nuclear bombs as fuel, Orion would capable of reaching a speed of 3% the speed of light. It is one of the few known proposals for interstellar spacecraft that could be constructed entirely with technology current. interstellar ramjet In 1960, Robert W. Bussard proposed the Bussard ramjet, a fusion rocket in a huge ball that collect the diffuse hydrogen in interstellar space, “burn” on the fly with a reaction of proton-proton fusion, and expel out of the back. Although estimates with estimates later be noted that the momentum would be less than the friction caused by any design imaginable spoon, the idea is attractive because, as the fuel would be collected on the way, the spacecraft could theoretically accelerate to near light speed. A Bussard ramjet could achieve a constant 1g acceleration would allow the pilot make very long journeys. To an observer on Earth, such a ship would take hundreds of thousands of years to reach the center of the galaxy. But due to the relativistic expansion time only 20 years would pass for the crew on the boat. Imagine – just 20 years in the center of the galaxy! Of course, technical problems unresolved such as drag force field, shielding the crew from interstellar radiation and the ability to control fusion reactions. “However, in my opinion, anyone want to leave the world who know and love to all, uses most of his life to make a useless trip to the center of the galaxy, the Earth when the technology has advanced Therefore hundreds of thousands of years humans will be all the galaxy long before you get there. “A rocket antimatter antimatter rocket would have a density much greater energy and specific impulse than any other draft class of rockets. Assuming that energy resources and efficient production methods are for antimatter in the quantities required, in theory it would be possible to reach speeds approaching that of light, when time dilation is seen to shorten journey times for passengers considerably. Interstellar travel via transmission main article: If physical entities could Teleportation be transmitted as information and rebuilt in a travel destination, just at the speed of light is possible. Note that, under general relativity, the information can not travel faster than light. The increase in speed compared to near-light-speed travel would therefore be minimal for observers outside, but for traveler’s journey became instantly. coding, transmission and reconstruction of an atom by atom description (for example) of a human body is a daunting prospect, but may be enough to send the software at all practical purposes duplicates the function of nerves a person. Presumably, the receiver / reconstructor for transmissions of this kind would be sent to its destination by more conventional means. To me, that makes the type of transmission method useless, because the receiver / builder would have to be there before the transmission would be of no use. general relativity can allow an object travel faster than light in curved spacetime. You can imagine, the exploitation of the curvature of taking a “shortcut” to a point to another. This is a form of the concept of warp drive. GEOFFERY A. Landis, Glenn Research Center at NASA, says a sailboat interstellar laser power could be launched within 50 years using new methods of space travel. “I think ultimately we will do, is just a matter of when and who “Landis said in an interview. Rockets are too slow to send humans on interstellar missions. However, it is expected interstellar craft with huge sails, driven by laser light to about one tenth the speed of light. It would be like taking a boat about 43 years to reach Alpha Centauri, if it passes through the system. Deceleration to stop at Alpha Centauri could increase the trip to 100 years. Wormholes are conjectures distortions in space-time theorists postulate that could connect two arbitrary points in the universe, through an Einstein-Rosen bridge. It is unknown whether or not wormholes are possible in practice. Although there are no solutions to the equation Einstein’s general relativity which allow wormholes, all currently known solutions involve some assumed, for example, the existence of negative mass, which may be not physical. However, Cramer et al. argue that the wormhole could take those created in the early universe, cosmic chain stabilized. The theory general of the wormholes is discussed in the book by Visser wormholes Lorentz. A generation ship is a type of interstellar ark in which passengers normally live (not in suspended animation) and the crew to reach their destination are descendants of those who started the journey. generation vessels are not currently feasible, both by the sheer magnitude of the vessel, and because such sealing, self-maintenance of habitat would be difficult to build. Artificial closed ecosystems, including the Biosphere 2, have been built in an attempt to resolve the difficulties of engineering in such systems, with mixed results. Ships generation would also have to solve major biological and social problems. Estimates of minimum viable population vary – 180 is the lowest, but such a small population would vulnerable to genetic drift, which could reduce the gene pool below a safe level. A new generation boats in fiction usually takes thousands of years to reach their destination, ie, since most human civilizations have lasted. Therefore there is a risk that the culture that reaches the destination may be unable to what is needed – in the worst case may have fallen into barbarism. scientists and writers have postulated various techniques of suspended animation. These include the hibernation human and cryogenic preservation. While not currently implemented, which offer the possibility of bed vessels in which passengers are inert for many years of the trip. However, even assuming that all relevant space-faring and suspended animation technologies could be developed, an automated means of guiding the spacecraft to its destination with little human influence or anything would be necessary. ”
