Do you think advances in technology create threats to civil liberties?

The technology of our society continues to grow fast. With the advance of technology is the concern of some organizations or groups that crimes of technology in our civil liberties. States America was built on the Constitution and Bill of Rights. However, the system has had to adapt to change and adjustment of technology in preserving freedom. Do you feel that advances in technology create threats to civil liberties? If so, what kind? If not, why not?

Not as an independent liberal, often mistaken for a conservative, I think the technology has expanded individual freedom through individual expression. Every technology can be misapplied by a centralized government and create threats to freedom, but when a technology is cheap and widespread, and opens the flow of information to more people – It is a blessing to civil liberty, if not immediately then over time. I would be very depressed by the state police intrusion of government in private decisions (investment, hiring, lending, defense, etc.) except for the blessing of personal technology and medical technology. These two areas continue to inspire me.
